Hatha
Vinyasa Yoga Classes
Hatha
literally means “Pose”, and Vinyasa means
“to connect the poses together with the breath”.
In hatha vinyasa, the class is taught by moving from one
yoga pose, called an Asana, to another using breath cues.
This is commonly a more vigorous workout, and some poses
are held up to 5 breaths. Every yoga class works all the
major muscle groups in the body, with some classes targeting
specific areas of the body that will receive the most
concentrated results of the vinyasa. Themes include promoting
strength, flexibility and balance. Every class begins
with centering (bringing the focus to the present) with
the Christian Focus Group utilizing verses and Christian
mantras and other groups utilizing quotes or poems, affirmations,
etc. Every class ends with Pranayama (breathwork) and
Savasana (final resting pose).
Gentle Yoga Classes
This class is a gentle form of yoga, with the use of props to insure maximum benefits are received from the poses. Props may include blankets, bolsters, straps, blocks, and Chairs. (Please be sure to let us know if you know ahead of time that you would like to use the chair. If you do not know, that's okay! We will decide when we better see where you are in your yoga.) Modifications are offered so that everyone can successfully participate. Themes include promoting strength, flexibility and balance. Every class begins with centering (bringing the focus to the present) using quotes, scriptures, poems, affirmations, etc. Every class ends with Pranayama (breathwork) and Savasana (final resting pose).
Restorative
Yoga Classes
In restorative
yoga classes we use the aid of props including round and/or
rectangular bolsters, yoga blankets, straps, blocks, and
walls. These props are used to support the body and allow
it to fully relax into the poses. Poses are held anywhere
from 1 minute to 15 minutes. This facilitates a greater
opening and release, while reversing the cumulative effects
of stress on the body. Great emphasis is placed on being
completely comfortable in each and every pose, so that
tension does not block full release. It is important in
these classes to let your teacher know if at any time
you experience pain or significant discomfort. Savasana
at the end of the class commonly includes a guided imagery
to assist in facilitating a fully relaxed state.
Kids
Yoga Classes
Kids yoga is a
great way for children learn safe and effective coping
and to find balance in their emergent lives, when everything
around them seems epic. Classes are in the format taught
by YogaFit Kids! using the “3 hills”. We begin
with a fun centering, warm up and share circle. After
that, poses are introduced and practiced in fun (and sometimes
silly) yoga games. Finally, the kids are taught to bring
their focus from “with” time to “within”
time and poses are worked on in a more meditative manner.
Class ends with breathwork and Savasana, with guided imagery
suitable for the age group. Share circles commonly are
opened at the end of class for questions or comments from
the children.
Chakra
Flow Yoga Classes
This is a series,
and includes hatha vinyasa classes focusing on the areas
of the body associated with each of the chakras. The first
class theme is Muladhara, or the root chakra, and focuses
on grounding through the legs and feet. The second class
theme is Svadisthana and focuses on hip openers, and so
on. Each of the chakras correlates with a position on
the spine, where nerve bundles and members of the neuroendocrine
system are connected. This can be viewed as the different
aspects of our lives, the different roles we all play,
and the different coping mechanisms we all have. Yoga
is whole body wellness, and this class series really delves
in deeper to one of the paths exploring that principle.
Christian
Focus Group
Over the years,
Christians have placed a great deal of energy toward spiritual
wellness. In our Christian focus group we aim to bring
about that same enthusiasm for whole body wellness. God
created us as whole beings, complete with a spirit, a
mind and a body (1 Thessalonians 5:23). He then commissioned
us to take care of this gift he gave to us (1 Corinthians
6:19). These classes focus on total well being and incorporate
physical postures with scriptural meditation and breathing
exercises, all designed to equip our students with a Christ
focused approach to whole body and spirit wellness. The
Christian Focus Group meets for both Restorative yoga
and Hatha Vinyasa yoga. Please check the schedule for
details.
